About JC

JC Woodshop came as the result of over 10 years of developing skills across a range of materials making for myself, gifts for others and eventually gifts for friends to give to their loved ones. As always this developed into the time-old conversation of "You should make these to sell" and after some substantial procrastinating I finally took the plunge to start JC Woodshop.

I grew up working with my hands under the guidance of both my dad and grandad with varying levels of success (less so in the early years). Having access to tools and space to make a mess enabled me to teach myself many of the skills I rely on now to make what I hope you love.

Before the woodshop came into existence, I spent over 10 years building and customising drums for drummers worldwide getting to work with some amazing people. In 2017 I bought my first home with my now wife and while fully renovating our home I began to find that we couldn't find a lot of the homeware and décor that we really loved at what felt like a practical price.

My goal with the woodshop is to make stunning, unique homeware and décor from as much recycled, reclaimed or salvaged material as possible. This may mean using offcuts from someone else's production, breaking down someone's old furniture to salvage some beautiful wood that was destined for landfill or buying wood from sawyers that fell trees to improve the quality of land but don't want to waste this amazing wood.

Not all the wood in the woodshop can be sourced this way but my aim is to make this my priority when building anything.

This does mean that a lot of the products and projects within the woodshop are unique and won't be replicated. All wood is different and presents different challenges when being worked with so if you see something you love, don't bank on there being another one in 6 months! And even if there is it WON'T be the same!

In 2025 after 13 years of service I decided to take volentary redundancy from my day job as I was really unhappy. We had just moved into our 'forever home' (scuse the cliche) and while it was terrifying to walk away from steady pay, benefits and lets be honest very little effort for the pay...I knew I didn't want to end up there for another 13 years regretting having never taken the chance.

Our new home didn't have a workshop however we bought it with the space for me to build one, so that I did. With the help of friends and family, after 5 months I officially (kind of) finished construction of my workshop. Three times the size of my old space I finally have space to develop and grow and hopefully build more amazing things that people will love.

There is a long road ahead for me trying to make this my livelihood but with the incredible support of those around me I know we'll get there.

I hope you love what comes out of the woodshop, I hope you can support my journey in trying to curb the 'throwaway culture' and most of all I hope that if you can support the woodshop in any way, it brings you as much joy to have in your home as it did for me to create it!
